The special edition of spielbox (24th year) for the fall novelties will be handed out free of charge to visitors at the entrances from 9.00 to 11.30 a.m. and at the spielbox stand (2 A210) on all days of SPIEL. It will also be available in many hotels in Essen and the surrounding area. Subscribers to the German spielbox will receive it with issue 5/2026.

It can be ordered here in the webshop for shipping costs and a small handling fee.

Traditionally, this issue contains the presentation of many new games from A to Z, which are newly released in Essen (a further part can be found in spielbox 5/2026 and of course it also contains the ever-popular checklist (yellow pages) with novelties selected by the spielbox editorial team.

Azul Kids marks the first-ever children’s game in the series—and in an interview with spielbox, designer Michael Kiesling has already announced more Azul games to come. For nearly 20 years, game publishers have been using the Göttingen Game Designers’ Meeting as an opportunity to send members of their editorial teams to a cross-publisher editorial seminar for professional development shortly before the event. And in Vienna, too, people help each other out: spielbox was a guest at a game designers’ get-together featuring prominent figures. Of course, we’ll be reporting on the Game of the Year awards ceremony in Berlin. A total of 21 games are reviewed in the new issue.

Seit fast 20 Jahren nutzen die Spieleverlage das Göttinger Spieleautorentreffen, um kurz zuvor Mitglieder ihrer Redaktionen zur Weiterbildung zu einem verlagsübergreifenden Redaktionsseminar zu schicken. Die spielbox war dabei. Und auch in Wien hilft man sich gegenseitig: Die spielbox war hier zu Gast bei einem prominent besetzten Spieleautorenstammtisch. Wir berichten natürlich von der Preisverleihung zum Spiel des Jahres in Berlin. Insgesamt werden 21 Spiele in der neuen Ausgabe rezensiert.
